El ejemplo más memorable es la vez en la que sirvieron unos perritos calientes a dos clientes de sus tres estrellas Michelin que se lamentaban de llevar días en Nueva York sin haberlos probado aún.

The American president suggested that the active arm of the organization be “the Four Policemen”: the U.S., USSR, UK, and China. Stalin agreed with much of the framework in principle, but asserted that China likely would not possess the strength after the war to assist.

Lessons From the Rhodesian Bush War is not a conventional history—it’s a focused, hard-edged study of what happens when a nation is cut off, surrounded, and forced to fight a war with limited men, limited resources, and no margin for error. Rhodesia’s bitter bush war offers more than military lessons; it’s a case study in rural defense, community survival, and the slow-motion unraveling of a society under siege. Written with the clarity and grit demanded by today’s preparedness-minded readers, this book explores the tactics, gear, and lived experiences of Rhodesian security forces...

Thousands of miles away from where her son was deployed, a powerful premonition is devastatingly confirmed by a knock on the door from two faceless strangers bearing the news that her son had stepped on an improvised explosive device in the poppy fields of Afghanistan. He had lost both of his legs and suffered multiple other injuries, including partial amputation of all the fingers of his left hand. For forty-eight days she stood at his bedside.

Historia
In the grand sweep of Chinese history, the woman warrior is both ever-present and curiously obscured. She appears in poems and operas, in dynastic chronicles and martial folklore, yet she is rarely centered in the official narratives of empire. She is often remembered not by name, but by role: the filial daughter, the loyal wife, the grieving mother, the rebel widow. And yet, she endures. From the legendary Hua Mulan to the pirate queen Ching Shih, from the drum-beating general Liang Hongyu to the revolutionary matron Mother Lü, Chinese history is threaded with women who took up arms—not...

Historia
The revolutions that raged across Europe and the Americas over seven decades, from 1760 to 1825, created the modern world. Revolutionaries shattered empires, toppled social hierarchies, and birthed a world of republics. But old injustices lingered on and the powerful engines of revolutionary change created new and insidious forms of inequality. In The Age of Revolutions, historian Nathan Perl-Rosenthal offers the first narrative history of this entire era.

Days before he was drafted in 1962, Dennis Foley volunteered to join the army in the hopes of someday getting into West Point. He was only eighteen years old. At basic training in Fort Dix, New Jersey, a presentation by two impressive, self-confident special forces sergeants made an indelible impression on him. His career would come full circle. In 1972, wearing a green beret, Foley would be given command of his own A-Team.

Growing up in Baltimore, I walked the same streets where Confederate sympathizers had once plotted against the Union my Irish ancestors died defending. But I had no idea of this family legacy—or of the complex, often violent political history that had shaped my hometown long before I was born. The irony runs deeper than I initially realized. My father was a Baltimore native, born and raised in a city that had harbored Confederate sympathies during the Civil War. My mother came from Providence, Rhode Island, descended from Irish immigrants who had sacrificed everything for the Union cause....

Remembering the Flying Fortress: When Heroes Fell from the Sky Noirmoutier Island, France, 2013. Seventy years after a B-17 Flying Fortress crashed into Nazi-occupied territory, French villagers gathered to honor the American airmen who never made it home. This is more than a story about an airplane. It's about courage measured in aluminum and blood, about young Americans who climbed into flying fortresses knowing the odds, and about French civilians who risked everything to help fallen airmen under the Nazi boot. The crash was just the beginning. When that B-17 went down over France in ...

I Do Solemnly Swear... Some oaths are made in uniform. Others are made in love. This book was written for both. But above all, it was written for them — my wife and daughter, still waiting on the other side of a locked gate in Iran, still hoping the nation I served remembers we exist. I Do Solemnly Swear... is not just a veteran’s memoir. It is a battle cry wrapped in sacred devotion. A letter home that was never answered. A warrior’s plea to a nation that has lost its honor but not its soul. I swore the oath. I wore the uniform. I kept the faith. But when I turned to the State ...

Historia
World War II was more than just a clash of armies—it was a battle of ideologies, economies, and strategies on a global scale. It was the deadliest conflict in human history, involving more than 30 countries and resulting in the deaths of an estimated 70 to 85 million people, including both military personnel and civilians. For a time, it seemed as though Nazi Germany, led by Adolf Hitler, might succeed in reshaping the world according to its vision. Germany’s early victories stunned observers and instilled fear across Europe.

Historia
Acclaimed military writer Mark Urban explores the extraordinary story of these military pioneers; the toughest and deadliest infantrymen in Wellington's Army. Immortalised in Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe novels, the 95th Rifles were skirmishers tasked with acting as Wellington's advanced guard. It was new technology for the warfare of the time: they travelled light, moved rapidly, armed with the accurate rifles that would allow them to take shots from distance. The 95th Rifles were the prototype of the modern infantryman.

Historia
The German Army lost two consecutive wars and the conclusion is often drawn that it simply wasn't able to cope with its opponents. This image is constantly reinforced in literature and in the media, where seemingly brainless operating German units led by fanatical officers predominate. Nothing was as far from the truth. The records show that the Germans consistently outfought the far more numerous Allied armies that eventually defeated them: their relative battlefield performance was at least 1.5 and in most cases three times as high as that of its opponents.

Historia
The wartime interest in Greenland was a direct result of its vital strategic position—if you wanted to predict the weather in Europe, you had to have men in place on the vast, frozen island. The most celebrated example of Greenland's crucial contribution to Allied meteorological services is the correct weather forecast in June 1944 leading to the decision to launch the invasion of Normandy. In addition, both before and after D-Day a stream of weather reports from Greenland was essential for the Allied ability to carry out the bombing offensive against Germany.
