Beverly:

For years, Laura and I sat helplessly on the sidelines while our best friend Megan ran from a deadly cartel. When Megan went radio silent, and strange men came creeping out of the darkness, we feared that we’d landed in the cartel’s crosshairs. Our fears were answered when Laura was taken. Unable to depend on the law, desperation led me to reach out to a few unconventional sources for help.

Was it wrong of me to allow my mind to cross over my fears and linger on one of the men who’d agreed to help us?

Taken. They took the wrong one. Either they were going to let me go, or I’d make them kill me. Beverly’s call for help produced two mercenaries, so adept at killing that I wasn’t sure if we should’ve been running from them or the cartel that was chasing us.

How were we supposed to know that the men protecting us knew how to stoke the fires of hell and use the flames to burn it to oblivion?

I've been waiting for this book to be released as an audio version! Both ladies were interesting and honestly both could have had their own separate book. Keta is one of my favorite authors. She is unique with how she makes her characters relatable and she makes her readers feel like they're going through all the same emotions as her characters. I, however, did not like the narrators. Lily's voice for both characters was atrocious. The voice she used for Beverly was, YIKES! BJ was just as bad. In my opinion, the voices they used for the characters did not match how the author described them, especially Lily. If I hadn't read the book first, I don't know if I would have liked this book. I recommend reading the book prior to buying the audio version.

This was good! Honestly, I hope she puts out another book cause the epilogue wasn’t the type of epilogue I needed. I wasn’t a fan of the male narrator, the way he imitates Black women was highly annoying. But, overall the story was good.

I hope we get another book with these 4

I don't know who decided to have narrating female to whisper her part, awful choice, that almost made me stop listening. It made me think this was yet another attempt to stop readers from liking the author. This was great book, original, well written just wish this series had another book about Dax and Laura love story. I loved the strong females in this series with details about each past. Best line: taking what you have to work for what you need, well something like that. my moto as well. People please stop neglecting your kids!

Great story overall! We need a book to explain how Laura and Beverly’s love lives turned out. Also, Derrick needs a story. Maybe all three situations in one book? Please choose different narrators.
The female narrator, Nicole, read too low and too fast. The male narrator, Schraff, does not need to make a mockery of black women characters. His narration of black women’s voices was buffoonish. Was he trolling us? His voice sounded like a blaxploitation parody.

I enjoyed the book . I am glad you touched on what made the "thick as thieves". some parts of the narrators weren't that great. Overall I would recommend this series.

This book had me from beginning to end , Luke and Beverly is my favorite ❤ 💗 💓. Dex and Laura are deadly, Luke took my breath away and Beverly is a sleeping beauty with a come at me if you dare. And she doesn't even shout about it. I will be reading this book again. What a surprise a continuation from the other books.

Initially I wasn’t felling it because female narrator was speaking really fast and it was difficult to understand. However, I was able to get the rhythm of the speaker; challenging but got it. The story was fantastic! Love the twists and turns. Keta Kendrick very good story teller!!

I would love to hear more about Laura and Dax. Well also Beverly and Luke. Is there a story in the works about all the characters in this series. They all were great just Please don't have a male narrator for the female characters. Great..Great story.
