Julio Cortázar (1914-1984) was the undisputed master of the short story and a great innovator of the Latin American novel of the 20th century. He was also a renowned Argentine translator and, fun fact, he was responsible for translating Edgar Allan Poe’s works into Spanish.

His Style A lover of experimentation, Cortázar impeccably fused genres: essays, poetry, chronicles and novels. His work escapes linear time and, unlike his contemporaries who sought to exalt the regional, he tackled universal topics and built a world of his own.

Written to be Heard Cortázar broke the traditional rules and structures of literature. For this reason, his novels and short stories present a challenge to those who listen to them. His transgression was such that he even invented a language called "glyglic" for chapter 68 of his masterpiece, Rayuela.
