Beverly Cleary's birthday, April 12th, is celebrated across the country on D.E.A.R. Day, with activities related to the Drop Everything and Read Program. One of the most popular and honored authors of all time, Beverly Cleary has won the Newbery Medal for Dear Mr. Henshaw, and both Ramona Quimby, Age 8 and Ramona and Her Father have been named Newbery Honor Books.

In Memoriam

We were heartbroken to learn that Beverly Cleary has passed away at the age of 104. The beloved author, whose creation of such iconic characters as Ramona Quimby and Henry Huggins helped set the stage for an influx of realistic and relatable children's fiction in the second half of the 20th century, inspired (and inspires) countless kidlit writers. We will always be grateful for the positive impact she had on our childhoods, and will doubtless continue to share her legacy with our families for years to come. —The Audible Editors
