About this listen

Still provocative after all these years, Helen Gurley Brown celebrates the pleasures of flirting, of enjoying affairs from beginning to end, throwing brunches and dinner parties, finding men where you might not think to look, dating (and ditching) married men, and being both feminine and powerful.

Wonderful wisdom with a pinch of lasciviousness

Plenty in this book is titillating, but never vulgar by modern standards. This book is a fascinating time capsule view into the life of a single girl in 1962.
What amazed and delighted me most was the volume of completely level headed advise given.
Replace "men" with "all social and professional contacts" and you have a very nice guide to social and professional life!

cute

dated advice. But was interesting to see the contrast between women in the 50s and women today.

The Book that Birthed the Sexual Revolution

This is pre-feminist empowerment, and is an absolute hoot to listen to. "I think the single woman's biggest problem are the people who are trying to marry her off." Gurley Brown declares in the intro, and from there on in it's clever and entertaining advice for single women of the Sixties. Some of it is absolutely applicable today, the importance of financial independence, why it's good to be worldy and intelligent, why sex is a basic right for single women. It also works as a sociological time capsule, a look into pre-2nd wave feminist society.

It's like spending time with your uber-cougar man-eater grandma. Wildly entertaining. She makes singledom sound like so much fun!

Timeless Advice To Dating & Mating

Although this book was initially written in the 60s; it's a timeless treasure relevant to dating & mating in 2019 almost prothetic. I liked how it taught how to identify the different types of men around us & their role (or potential) role on a single girl's life. Great book!

A classic from the 60s

No, not everything is the way it used to be with the Internet, but being single no matter what age is a trying ordeal what you have to remember foremost is that it’s all about you

the basics still apply

As a content single woman in my mid 30s a lot of the advise is still applicable to the 21st century world. The reader did give a disclaimer about how dated the ideas on topics like homosexuality or references but I just skipped over those sections or just updated the reference in my mind.

This book gives some gems of advise from am array of topics. Some of the advise you most likely have heard before, but it's good advise. I wish I would have found this book during my first big breakup in my 20s I would have saved more time and money if I had this book then.

If your a woman in her 20s or 30s and are looking for an updated version of this type of book, go get The Game of Desire by Shannon Boodram. Its definitely a great book that really helped kick start this journey of understanding and loving myself.

All in all, take in the book as if you're a modern 1960s gal. Think Mary Tyler Moore and her crazy gal pals are discussing these topics. These ladies help pioneer a new type of feminism. Yes at types flawed but not without merit.

Happy listening

Oldie but goodie

I liked the book. Some of the stuff was super old school but a lot of it is still relevant today. The narrator did a wonderful job.
