About this listen
A wet washcloth was handed to Alistair and he slapped it none too gently on the back of her neck. She tried to lift her head and he pushed her back down and glared at his brother. He had to take his anger out on someone, and he was the perfect target for it. "You had to scare her off on the first day, didn't you? You just couldn’t stand the fact that you didn't know that Colette wouldn't work for you and that I'd found you suitable help in the meantime." His brother started to speak, but Bronwyn lifted her head again and he shoved her back down. "You should be horse whipped."
The shrill whistle made him leap from Bronwyn. He'd heard men whistle like that, but never a woman. He smiled at her when she stood. Damn, but this girl had spirit. "You will not shove me around like an old, unwanted piece of furniture."
Ryland told her to sit down and shut up and she stepped close enough to him to touch. "And I am not a dog to be ordered about like one either." She stomped to the elevator again. Bronwyn didn't need this crap and she certainly didn't need it from a bunch of rich pricks that seemed to be out to make her life worse than it already was. She stepped off the elevator and headed for the door. No way was she working for these idiots.
Ryland tried his best to tell the woman what she was going to do but she thwarted him at every turn. When he found her living in one of his abandoned warehouse set for demolition he nearly went through the roof. Until he saw her in action, using powers that he'd never seen before. Then nothing could keep him from her.
She was his mate, someone he was sworn to protect. But it didn't work out that way. She was the protector and he was man enough to realize it, and none too soon because the men after her were playing for keeps and Ryland was afraid his streak, his family of weretigers were going to need all the help they could get from her.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Story
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Didn't Like the Narrator
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Different narrator
What didn’t you like about Natalie Gray’s performance?
Her narration was flat and annoying. Her voice did not work for me with this story.
Any additional comments?
I read this story previously and enjoyed it, however I did not enjoy listening to it. Preferred the narrator from from her Force of Nature series.

I only finished it because I paid for it.
What would have made Ryland better?
First pages - Ryland is a snarling, egotistical Alpha male with no regard, much less memory, of anyone less important than him. By the end of Chapter 1 he's in love and going to marry the heroine... HUH??? And the girl? She hates all men, they're all going to rape and pillage and by the end of Chapter 1 she's in love and having voluntary sex with the dude? Seriously? All the while being completely unconscious and recovering from bullet wounds because she's drinking freshly squeezed orange juice... LOL.. it was so ridiculous...
What was most disappointing about Kathi S. Barton’s story?
I kept waiting for a story... It never showed up - glancing passes as history, hop-skip-and-jump around between him, her, them. Alot of the "plot" points were never explained.
Would you be willing to try another one of Natalie Gray’s performances?
Absolutely not. Have you listened to her?
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Ryland?
Basically, I'd re-write the whole book. The premise might have worked... if there was any depth, connection, or flow to the book. There isn't.

Not for me
I didn't enjoy this book. I felt like I had walked out and missed a part of it at times, but this is a book and not a movie. Maybe it's the way it was edited?? I'm not impressed with the story or the narration. This one didn't work for me at all. I would not waste a credit on it.

Annoying lack of character believability
I actually liked the story/plot. I would've enjoyed it more if there wasn't a glaring change of attitude in Bronwyn. She went from complete distrust of men to trusting in the blink of an eye with no real explanation. That felt jarring and unreal to me... Of course that's a priority in a romance about shape shifters :p. If you ignore that it's not a bad story
