Publisher's summary

I thought Gage and I were destined to be together forever.

Until he rejected me and abandoned our pack.

I found my fated mate over twenty years ago,
But got impatient waiting for him to admit his feelings.
In my infinite teen wisdom,
I cast a love spell to give him a nudge.
But my plan failed miserably when I botched it,
And Gage rejected me in front of our whole pack instead.
My dating history has been hilariously bad ever since,
So between my exhausting job as an ER nurse
And my duties as the Glenwood pack healer,
I’d resigned myself to becoming a crazy old spinster wolf witch.
Until Gage is rushed into the ER one night,
Unconscious and badly hurt.
The docs don’t think he’ll make it,
But they don’t know I’ve got magic on my side.
As he’s caught in limbo, I try to bring him back from the brink,
But he’s too far gone, and my wolf howls in agony.
Until suddenly, he calls my name.
Now that he’s back, will he break my heart all over again,
Or is fate finally giving us a second chance at forty?

Steamy shifter love scenes and an HEA inside! No cheating or cliffhanger in this standalone romance. Listeners 18+.

We finally get Dawn's story

I like that we finally get Dawn's story. She has been a good supporting character throughout the series so far. It is a good story as well. Makes patience is a virtue as a philosophy very fore front. If you're not patient then you could mess everything up.

Rejected Midlife Wolf!

This is a good story that I thought was nicely developed and narrated. The narrator did a good job bringing all the characters to life. The story is a second chance romance about Dawn and Gage. These two are fated mates but she did not have enough trust and rushed to perform a spell that pushed him away. Now years he has been severely injured and taken to the emergency room. She is a nurse and sees him and lends her help. She is worried his secret nature will be revealed and her wolf years to be near him. When he awakes in the hospital she sees her but his wolf is not drawn to her. Dawn feels guilty about what she has done and seeks to undue the magic so he can be happy. This is a good story with drama, magic, angst, action, suspense, danger, passion, steam and much more.

Enjoyable shifter romance

I always find with this author the stories
are well developed and well balanced.
This one is no different.
There’s plenty of action going on that holds
my attention right throughout.
The narrator has done a great job of bringing
the characters and book alive.

I Enjoyed It

I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting from the start and I was completely hooked. The rejected mate trope is one I read about less often, but I really liked it here- and thought the cause of it unique and fascinating. I liked both Gage and Dawn. Both have made mistakes that have consequences- but none more so than one Dawn made as an impatient teenager that messed up both their lives rather than the happy outcome she expected. They have unresolved history, and bad communication. It was a hard won happy ending.

Elle Sonali did a wonderful job with her narration of this book and bringing these characters to life. I find that I like her work more and more with every new book I hear.

HER FATED MATE

Gage and Dawn. She's a nurse and he owns his own mechanic shop. They are both wolf shifters and she has magic also. They were high school sweethearts and she knew they were fated but she cast a love spell to hurry it along and it went wrong somehow and he rejected her. Also his family kept telling him he wasnt good enough for the Alphas girl and that he would embaress himself. Years later after hes attacked they meet again when she is the nurse on duty taking care of him. They don't expect him to live but she uses her healing magic to enter him and heal. When her wolf reaches for his still after all these years there's nothing. He remembers going to bed one night wanting her with all his being and waking up feeling nothing and now years later there is still nothing with his wolf wanting her. She finds him sleeping in his car and invites him into her house and spare bedroom. And Bella of course, his big big dog. She really needed to reverse that spell she just knew kept him from loving anyone. He thought when he woke that magic had been removed. Well this tells me that maybe they are working against each other. Great story loved all of it. From the first listen it captivated your attention. Misunderstandings, betrayal, danger, passion, witchcraft, pack wars and fated mates.

Gage and Dawn

Story: Dawn (h) cast a love spell two decades ago to nudge her wolf shifter fated mate Gage (H) into admitting his feelings, only it disastrously backfired, leading to public rejection and years of heartache. Now, as an ER nurse and pack healer, she’s resigned herself to a solitary life—until a critically injured Gage is rushed into her ER, barely clinging to life. Despite the pain of the past, Dawn can't help but use her healing magic to save him. As Gage slowly recovers under her care, old feelings reignite, and Dawn sees a chance to undo her past wrongs. Their journey back to one another is filled with danger as external threats from rogue wolves and unresolved pack tensions loom. Hot and steamy, emotionally charged, midlife, second chance wolf shifter romance with plenty of angst, dangers, drama, tension, feels, and more,

Audio: Narrator Elle Sonali does a great job with Dawn and other female voices, and a pretty good job with male voices - while I personally prefer a female narrator is used to voice female voices, and a male narrator for male voices, I think Sonali did one of the best overall jobs as a single narrator that I've listened to in quite a while. The audio quality is good and there were no issues.

one spell can change the course of your life

Dawn Glenwood knows Gage Edwards is her mate. Her impatience as a young girl drives her to use magic that backfires and she looses him forever. Gage’s own belief about himself and a spell he had no knowledge of left him our of the pack and lost for most of his life.

A mysterious meeting brings everything back and gives Dawn the courage to try and fix her mistakes. Just as things seem to be back on track Gage’s past comes back to not just destroy them but to destroy the pack.

These are relatable characters who are just trying to fix past mistakes. Bella is a great source of comedic relief. Their HEA is worth the angst and I would highly recommend this story.

Another Great Addition to the Series

Meg Ripley has done a great job with this latest installment of Shifter Nation: Marked Over Forty. The characters and story line kept me entertained.

Elle Sonali brought the story to life and made this as fun to listen to as it was to read.
