About this listen

Driven by the desire to meet the true love she's experienced in her dreams, Monika Konrads uses her magickal skills to weave a love spell during the waxing of the moon. As if in response, a strangely familiar and handsome Scotsman is seeking to settle in their village. But the werewolf stalking Monika has other ideas about who her love interest should be.

Broderick MacDougal is drawn to the powerful witch by a familiar force, and makes the chestnut-haired wise woman his next pursuit to unravel the mystery of why she reminds him so much of his late wife, Davina. However, there are other supernatural forces surrounding her, exposing Rick to a darker side of this deal he made for immortality...and this enchanting nymph may be his only salvation.

Monika's quest to find a cure for the werewolf curse causes a chain of events that starts a witch hunt, dooming both her and Broderick to the fiery stake of judgment. And through these trials, they learn the Church has a new ally who is hunting down the members of the Army of Light.

Advisory: This story contains some explicit love scenes, described using graphic and direct language.

Bonded by Broderick!

I read the first four books, then found books 1-3 on audio, then read book 5. David Monteath is the perfect Broderick! His voice, accents, characterizations, pacing - all flawless. His voices and pacing are different for Davina, Monika and Celina, as well as for Cailin, and while Rick and Angus sound similar (as they should), each of them is distinctly different. Over the series, the plot progresses through multiple reincarnations of Broderick's wife, Davina, and each "new" Davina adds aspects which are then incorporated in the next incarnation, e.g., Davina is traumatized by her life before Rick, and retains some of that timidity her entire life, whereas Monika is very assertive, as well as having supernatural aspects. Celina is a supernatural being who uses spells and magical objects, but is also a warrior and an independent being. (Spoiler: This character development continues through books 4 and 5.) I love how Rick's relationship with each incarnation is unique, yet the bond with Davina's eternal soul endures and is reinforced as falls in love with her again and again over the centuries. I hope books 4 and 5 are also recorded (narrated by David Monteath, of course), and can't wait for book 6 to come out!

I am ruined for any other man thanks to Arial Burn

Have you listened to any of David Monteath’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I was mesmerized the first time I listened to David’s interpretation of Monika. Raspy. Mysterious. Enchanting. There aren’t many male narrators who can accurately encompass a woman’s… well... err- womanhood. 😏

Let’s not even discuss the vocal perfections of Broderick. *fainting* David, your talents know no bounds, my friend.

Since we’re talking about the many voices of David, I have to say my favorite voice is Jasper in Book 2. Jasper is a rodent of a man. OoooEEE the slime in Jasper’s character is perfectly hypostatized. Grimy, sickening, unrelenting. Absolutely my favorite!! (Jasper’s saliva spitting accent is probably David’s real voice… I mean, no one can be this perfect… right??)

Listening to David is like a switchback mountain trail. He will go from bastardizing a passage to creating complete allure. The crescendos, the passion, the demonic grunts and groans. Please. Spare me now. David’s narrations are effortless.

It’s just… wrong to be this good.

Any additional comments?

We're going to start with a daily reflection of how freaking brilliant Arial Burnz is:

CHECKLIST OF SWOONIESS

☑ Broderick finds his one true love Davina
☑ Davina dies (hey, she's only human and she can’t live forever)
☑ Broderick mourns her death for nearly 80 years
☑ Davina is reincarnated! Staaahp

Did y'all read that (the last item on our checklist)? DAVINA GETS REINCARNATED. Midnight Hunt is the absolute portrayal of eternal love. Actually, this isn't just eternal love, it's an I-will-find-you-in-your-next-life---but-seriously kind of love! Not only do Broderick and Davina gravitate towards each other in one life, but multiple. This. Is. Perfection.

Broderick's soulmate, Davina, has passed away (sad panda) and 80 years later we find that she has been reincarnated. She is now a young woman named Monika and Monika has no idea who Broderick is. In fact, she doesn't know anything about her previous life.

Monika is a healer; a woman with medicinal skills. She’s basically a witch. Yes, she's a very different character than our sweet Davina. Davina Monika has been praying for a man - her soulmate - to come into her life. (Aren't we all, sistah!) And lookey here... we've got JUST the man!

Broderick MacDougal is told his sweet Davina has been reincarnated into this feisty fascinating creature, but he is skeptical. No one could ever replace Davina. *Sigh*

“Davina’s soul resides in another body and is calling out to you now.”

“What are you…? So she is a wee bairn? A child I am to…what, raise?” Broderick resisted the urge to slap the woman, who had obviously lost all her faculties.

No, Broderick. Monika is indeed a woman. You can fight it all you want, Rick. It's Davina in that body!

Broderick may be resisting, but he soon sees that Davina lives within Monika. Broderick is a man POSSESSED! His taste buds are dilated for this woman! Our period of reflection has officially turned into a sauna swoon fest. *fanning face* Speaking of swooning, it looks like Monika's prayers have been answered quite aggressively because she doesn't only have Broderick fighting for her attention, but a devil of a man who needs her help to find a cure…

What kind of juju did Monika cast to go from no man, to a plethora of men? Unfortunately, not every man is as delectable as Rick. Unlike Broderick, this other man has foul intensions…

Monika has been asked to find a werewolf cure. Not just any cure, but the cure her mother spent her life trying to find in order to heal her husband (Monika's father) from the same curse. This strange and obviously swoony man is not-so-obviously dangerous. He knows almost too much about Monika's deceased mother. Oh... wait... did I forget to mention he also has possession of Monika's mother's journal? What the-

This man is up to NO GOOD! Pretty face or not, it's time for some answers! Be prepared for delicious layers of mystery and betrayal. Who is this man and how much does he really know about Monika? Do not fret, swoony werewolf man is not the only villain. Right about now you’re probably thinking, "Where is Angus the Puppet Master from Book 1 and 2? Please tell me he's turned a new leaf..."

I’ll give you one guess where Angus is…

Ok I’ll tell you.

Angus is BACK! And no, he has not turned a new leaf. He's still a snake in the grass, but ooooh what a handsome snake he is! I must admit that I have fallen a little in love with Angus. Angus... is... not what I expected! Our Puppet Master from Hell has officially seared my heart. I'm a traitor! Call me a witch and burn me at the stake!

Too bad the only ones burned at the stake are Monika and Broderick. 🔥 #WitchWitch

"The hem of her woolen gown smoldered. The garment and the ropes would burn before she did…but would that happen in time for her to save Broderick from the flames? Broderick yanked at his bonds, trying to loosen the chains..."

How did these two end up in this mess? Who is this werewolf man and what did he do to Monika's family? How did he get that journal, anyways? Did he kill Monika's mother?

Midnight Hunt is conquering, and captivating. After Book 1 I didn't think Arial Burnz could continue the story; it was so fulfilling and complete. Yet here I am raving about Book 3 and Broderick finding Davina in a second life. What have you done to me, Arial?

Angus, Broderick, and Monika are faced with new challenges as Broderick meanders down this path fulfilling prophesy… and we all know that prophesy does not agree with Broderick. Here's to eternal damnation. 🥂 Monika must find the cure her mother couldn’t, but why would she even want to help this dangerous man? Ooo the plot thickens, my friends!

Arial Burnz has yet again created a stunning setting with irrevocably perfect characters. We are trudging the edge of sanity as Broderick rediscovers the soul of Davina, and (yet again) succumbs to her seductions. Perfectly sculpted traitors, unparalleled detail, and a longer than forever love. Midnight Hunt is perennial.

Angus wants answers. Broderick needs answers. Monika has answers. This. Is. Bloody. Fantastic!

Let the hunt begin.
