About this listen

A premier lion shifter, Hugh Landry dedicates his life to leading the Berk pride with strength and confidence. Hundreds of people depend on Hugh for safety, success, and happiness. And at over a century old, with more power than can be contained in one body, Hugh relies on a Siphon lion shifter to carry his excess force.

When the Siphon endangers himself and therefore the pride, Hugh must pay attention to the man who has been his silent shadow for a decade. What he learns surprises him, but what he feels astounds him even more.

Two lions, each born to serve, rely on one another to survive. After years by each other's side, they'll finally realize the depth of their potential, the joy in their passion, and a connection their kind has never known.

Johnnie and Hugh

Johnnie's loneliness and isolation was an emotional punch. To only be an object to everyone around him, especially the person he was meant to be for, has him living a life of immeasurable pain. Hugh does the most changing throughout the story. Yes, Johnnies develops, but it is Hugh that has immense evolutions. While he starts out wanting to protect himself, he finds the more time he spends with Johnnie the more he sees his own shortcomings. He proves himself to be a great leader by his attentiveness to not only his pride but by acknowledging the things he's missed and takes steps to fix them. The connection and tenderness he gives Johnnie is sweet but that he sees and encourages Johnnie's wit, insightfulness, and incredible mind made him a great hero.

Audiobook: terrific narrator

Lovely shifter story

I really enjoyed this sweet romance told from both MCs POVs. But, duh, it Cardeno C. of course it will be sweet. However, unlike some of her books, it is not overly sweet, IMHO. It has a bit of darkness in that Johnnie has been emotionally abused all his life and can't take it anymore. His suicide attempt finally gets the attention of Hugh, the Premier and a slow romance and a drama ensues. The world building is detailed enough I presume this is the start of a series about lion shifters. Also, it definitely ends with enough of a teaser, that I would love to continue their story. Greg T. really brings this story to a new level with his narration. He brings such an emotional vulnerability, as well as strength, to Johnnie; and somehow manages to make Hugh not seem like the asshole he is at the beginning of the book. I look forward to the sequel.

Interesting Love Story

This is both an interesting take on a shifter story and a beautiful love story. The beginning is somewhat cold and shocking, so I was completely surprised by how emotional and erotic the story becomes. The development of the relationship between the main characters is beautifully done. There are some elements of the story that are a bit repetitive, but, overall it's a captivating novel with excellent character development. Greg Tremblay is brilliant as the narrator.

Love Greg Tremblay and Cardeno C

I really enjoyed the story! I bought the book because of the narrator and author not because of the subject of lion shifters, I do read m/m stories. To my delight enjoyed the story immensely!

Werelion Romance

Cardeno C. is a master at sweet romance, and her fans will be happy with Johnnie.
Our hero is a siphon, possessing a rare psychic ability to drain excess energy from powerful people who are endangered by the excess energy they generate. Since this gift is so rare and necessary, our hero has been kept in lavish isolation, pampered and protected but kept so completely alone that he doesn't have friends or even a name.
This lonely existence drives the nameless boy to attempt suicide, which catches the attention of his master, Hugh, who while thoughtless of him before, is not unkind. Hugh's attempts to understand and help the boy he names Johnnie causes a love to blossom between them.
There's a fair amount of angst at the beginning - our lead is suicidal after all - but things start looking up and it overall makes for a happy warm romance. It's a really enjoyable read, although I'd have liked more action.
