In the mystical realm of Enchancia, Henry LeFay, the heir to the Fairy Kingdom, struggles with his predetermined destiny under his father's expectations. Despite his lineage, Henry's heart veers toward unconventional pursuits, concealed from the royal gaze. Amidst the rigors of Excalibur Academy, Henry's clandestine romance with Irvine sparks betrayal and peril as his forbidden truth is unveiled. Facing a death sentence, Henry finds an unexpected ally in Queen Azzurra, redirecting his path to Gamaken Kuronuma, a cursed soul seeking redemption from the Goblin King.

Gamaken, trapped in the guise of the Frog Prince, seeks true love's kiss to break the curse. Henry, now a guardian spirit, joins him on a quest fraught with trials, testing their bond and Henry's burgeoning feelings. As Henry grapples with unrequited love and the looming threat of hanahaki disease, he navigates alongside cursed companions, each bearing their own burdens.

With time running short, Henry embarks on a perilous journey to obtain an ancient spell book, his only hope for a cure. Amidst battles with external foes and inner demons, Henry confronts his deepest desires and fears, risking everything to reveal his heart to Gamaken. The fate of Enchancia hinges on their quest as Henry's journey of self-discovery intertwines with the magic shaping their extraordinary world. It wasn’t my thing

The narrator was great. I just really couldn’t get into the story. I listened to the whole thing and couldn’t tell you anything about it as it could not hold my attention.

I was given this book for free for my unbiased review.

enjoyed it

📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, interesting plot
Characters are well written, the plot lines are interesting and the world building comprehensive. There's a bit of a tie-in with characters from Reincarnated as the Frog Prince, but it's not necessary to be familiar with the story before listening to this one.

This type of M/M isn't my usual "go to" as I prefer my protagonist's older and the language feels targeted to a young adult audience, but as a long-time fan of the Twisted Fairytales series I was happy to give it a chance. Although parts of the story are on the darker side and some parts are a bit "wordy", overall Henry's Secret is an entertaining and enjoyable listen and a good opportunity for this author to further stretch her M/M wings.

I enjoyed the two stages of Henry's story - First phase of Henry's story: we are introduced to Henry in boyhood as Prince in the Royal court, learning who he is and trying to meet the expectations of his father. Next phase is sixteen years later and Henry has found a new family with a group of adventurers called CurseBreakers. This book ends on a bit of a cliff hanger which is a good enticement for the next book.

Narrator comment: LaMont Ridgell is a new narrator for me, I feel like it took him a little while to find the "groove" of Henry's character ... and the "narrator voice" felt a little inconsistent (like he couldn't decide on "proper" or "casual" voices). Overall though he did a great job of bringing Henry's Secret to life, he has a diverse range of character voices, good timing, inflections and intonations and I look forward to further instalments from him.

Captivating

As I listened to this I remembered reading the books and all the beautiful illustrations from the books. Despite all Henry's set backs he still rose above this and helped others even when it hurt him ( Gama). He retained the good heart his mother gave him and was nothing like his father. Irvine was no friend of Henry's- he was a user .
I felt a lot of emotions as I read this. Check it out for all the feels. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest opinion. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.
