About this listen
At eighteen, Jessica makes a decision: she’s going to take the Entrance Exam for Girls. Like most young women her age, she knows this is a weird choice. Girls aren’t supposed to attend college; that’s something the boys do. Like the other girls her age, she’s still in diapers. She’s still so young and immature. Ever since the Arial Mutation hit the population, young women like her have developed far more slowly. They stay in diapers until high school. They wear pull-ups into their twenties. From motor skills to vocabulary development and virtually every other facet of maturity, they simply need more time even if they’re technically “adults”. The boys of the world grow up just as quickly as they always have, which means Jessica has always been the little girl in her household.
David, her brother, has done a really nice job of taking care of her. But now, he's about to graduate from college, so he won't have time to help her with her exam. Luckily for Jessica, he has a friend. Josh used to be her babysitter, and she's going to see him again. He's going to help her learn how to take this test. He’ll quiz her and drill her, giving her the exercises she needs to help her succeed.
Still, it's a super hard test! Jessica doesn't know if she can really do this. Normally, girls only go to college when they’re married or engaged to one of the other students. Even then, it's really rare. If she wants to go on her own, she might be able to impress her brother, but she doesn't know if she's going to be able to handle all of these difficult questions. She needs to learn history, vocabulary, and complicated mathematical equations. As a high school girl, she’s mostly focused on comportment and skills like baking or cleaning. But now, she wants to be a big girl, which will take some serious dedication.
It's even harder to focus now because of her tutor.
She can't explain it. She doesn't understand exactly why Josh's presence always seems to complicate everything. He comes up closer to her, and her breathing quickens. Her skin gets hot. More than that, she starts to have these thoughts. Random images pop into her head, and she doesn't know how to push them away. Her friends tease her about a crush, but she knows that can't be it. It has to be something else.
