About this listen

"I am Meredith Gentry, princess and heir apparent to the throne in the realm of faerie, onetime private investigator in the mortal world. To be crowned queen, I must first continue the royal bloodline and give birth to an heir of my own. If I fail, my aunt, Queen Andais, will be free to do what she most desires: install her twisted son, Cel, as monarch...and kill me.

"My royal guards surround me, and my best loved - my Darkness and my Killing Frost - are always beside me, sworn to protect and make love to me. But still the threat grows greater. For despite all my carnal efforts I remain childless, while the machinations of my sinister, sadistic Queen and her confederates remain tireless. So my bodyguards and I have slipped back into Los Angeles, hoping to outrun the gathering shadows of court intrigue. But even exile isn't enough to escape the grasp of those with dark designs.

"Now King Taranis, powerful and vain-glorious ruler of faerie's Seelie Court, has leveled accusations against my noble guards of a heinous crime - and has gone so far as to ask the mortal authorities to prosecute. If he succeeds, my men face extradition to faerie and the hideous penalties that await them there. But I know that Taranis' charges are baseless, and I sense that his true target is me. He tried to kill me when I was a child. Now I fear his intentions are far more terrifying."

What is it with this narrator‽

I love this whole series and have read it several times. I've been driving a lot, so I'm giving it a listen. But the narrator can NOT stay consistent. she has about 4 ways to pronounce each name a shifts them at random. She also suddenly decided to give a heavy accent to a character that specifically suppresses his.
Her story-telling is great, but please get it together on the names & voices.

Bitter ashes in Merry's mouth sadly sound like...

Sweet golden silk in my ears. This emotional roller coaster of a tale just keeps getting better and better! Can't stop loving this narrator/author combo!

good story, so-so narration

narrator changes her pronounciation of names from previous/correct pronunciations. it's aggravating. she also does a different voice for Sholto than in an earlier book. the voice of sholto in this book is terrible unfortunately.

I hate this narrator. Passionately...

This series, up to this point, has been a decent yarn. The problem is the narrator. It has been the same person. Unfortunately, every other book, she forgets how to pronounce a main character's name. Book one, she's on her A game and pronounces "Doyle" correctly. For some reason, in later books she begins to call him "Doal." And that's not the only one. She routinely mispronounces common words and whomever is supposed to be catching it/correcting it, failed to do so. Every time it happens, it yanks me out of the story with aggravation. It's sad that a decent story is marred by a less than stellar narrator.

Love, love, love this series!

And while the narrator is good, I wish Claudia Black had narrated them ALL! I love the work she did in Swallowing Darkness sooooo much that I'd spend the money and buy the entire series again if she was narrating it. She is AWESOME!
