Publisher's summary
The ménage a trois in its many forms has fascinated both observers and participants throughout history.
Here we meet Gordon, Rita, and June (a man, his wife, her sister); Jerry, Peggy, and Kay (a husband, his wife, her female lover); Peter, Wanda, and Grace (a brother, his sister, and his wife); and Bob and Carol (a married couple with an ongoing history of threesomes).
John Warren Wells provides in-depth interviews with all the participants in a manner designed to make the dynamics of these relationships readily comprehensible - but no less intriguing.

Steve Harvey can't count the number of impressive women he's met over the years - the many incredible women who can run a business, have three kids, maintain a household in tiptop shape, and chair a church group all at the same time. So when it comes to relationships, why can't these same women figure out what makes men commit? According to Steve, it's because they're asking other women for advice when they should be going directly to the source.

Life - if you've ever thought you might be doing it wrong, you're not alone. Objects in the Mirror: Thoughts on a Perfect Life from an Imperfect Person is a collection of essays that explores what it means to be alive. Like Polaroids framing the years of a troubadour and family man afflicted with an excess of self-awareness, these are stories without any clear good guys or bad guys. Instead, in each of these vignettes you will find dysfunctional humans trying to do their best and bouncing off each other in the process.

Men: Are you in a sexless marriage? Divorced and don’t want to go through that nightmare again? You're not alone. There are a lot of men out there not happy with their sex lives. What is going on? Is the tried-and-true stereotype of the undersexed husband and the cold, bossy wife inevitable? Are monogamous relationships doomed to such a pitiful state? Is that just the way marriage is? I don't think so.

Story
“What am I, bologna?” Mary Rodgers (1931-2014) often said. She was referring to being stuck in the middle of a talent sandwich: the daughter of one composer and the mother of another. And not just any composers. Her father was Richard Rodgers, perhaps the greatest American melodist; her son, Adam Guettel, a worthy successor. What that leaves out is Mary herself, also a composer, whose musical Once Upon a Mattress remains one of the rare revivable Broadway hits written by a woman. Shy is the story of how it all happened.

Lucy used to handle her adult romantic life according to the script she’d been handed. She met a guy just like herself: same age, same background, same hopes and dreams; they got married and started a family. Too bad he made her miserable. Now, two decades later, she’s a nearly divorced, forty-one-year-old schoolteacher with two school-aged sons, and there is no script anymore. So when she meets Joseph, she isn’t exactly looking for love—she’s more in the market for a babysitter.

Collected for the first time, here are the New York stories of one of the 20th century’s definitive chroniclers of the city - the speakeasies and highballs, social climbers and cinema stars, mistresses and powerbrokers, unsparingly observed by a popular American master of realism. Spanning his four-decade career, these more than 30 refreshingly frank, sparely written stories are among John O’Hara’s finest work, exploring the materialist aspirations and sexual exploits of flawed, prodigally human characters and showcasing the snappy dialogue.

Lawrence Block has Done it Again
In his persona of John Warren Wells, Lawrence Block takes on the subjects of threesomes and swinging. Okay, in 2021 these practices are a lot more openly acknowledged than when the book was originally written in 1971. The book contains a series of "case histories" with interviews from three threesomes and a couple involved in swinging. If you are expecting a wild, pornographic ride, though, you will need to look elsewhere. The characters are brought to life audibly through the excellent voicework of Dolores McDougal and Bill Weeden.
While this book may not b4e everyone's cup of chai, fans of Mr. Block (or fans of Bill Weeden and Dolores McDougal, or that matter) will definitely want to give this book a listen.
